Lamborghini Urus’ startschot voor elektrische toekomst sportwagens

De Lamborghini Urus is klaar om de eerste massa geproduceerde SUV van het bedrijf te worden, maar dat is niet alles. Lamborghini R&D baas Maurizio Reggiani heeft namelijk onlangs aan Car Advice onthult dat de Urus met een plug-in hybrid powertrain komt. Bovendien gaf hij aan dat vergelijkbare technologieën zullen worden gebruikt in hun toekomstige super sportwagens.

It is fair to say, the Urus will be the first Lamborghini that will adopt a (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) PHEV system. A PHEV system is currently ideal for packaging in an SUV platform, but the technology right now doesn’t allow us to set up a super sports car with PHEV the way we would like to. – Liet Reggiani weten

PHEV nu nog niet voor flagship modellen van Lamborghini

Om verder in te gaan op de nieuwe applicatie, laat chief executive Stefano Domenicalli weten dat het PHEV systeem enkel wordt geïntroduceerd op het juiste moment voor het sportauto bedrijf. Hij zegt:

We can certainly have a naturally aspirated V12 and electrification, but at the right moment. It could be complementary to the V12, but we won’t have a full electric vehicle anytime soon, for sure. We are already working on the next-generation super sports car platform, but for sure, the second engine of the new SUV will be hybrid.

Turbochargers zullen in de toekomst hoogstwaarschijnlijk ook geïmplementeerd worden in de flagship modellen van Lamborghini. Echter laat Reggiani weten dat dit nog een tijd op zich zal laten wachten en dat dit nog niet helemaal voor hun weggelegd is.
